Greenhouse is one of the one of NYC's hottest nightlfie destinations and is the first nightclub awarded LEED certification, the official stamp of approval from the US Green Building Council. That means that everything from building materials and garbage disposal, energy and water usage, has to be regulated and reduced.

Greenhouse's walls are made of quick-growing bamboo, far more sustainable than lumber and covered in real leaves "giving Greenhouse an almost trippy Alice in Wonderland vibe" (Citysearch).  The ceiling is comprised of 5000 individually-hung crystals and meant to invoke a rolling landscape.

LED light bulbs are used which use one-thirtieth of the energy of regular incandescent bulbs.  Staff uniforms are sustainably made in Africa by Edun,  a clothing company owned by Bono and his wife. Electricity for the sound system and the rest of the club is said to be 100 percent wind-powered. The use of waterless urinals and low-flow toilets saves 15,000 gallons of water annually.
